Nigel Farage faces new scrutiny over undisclosed gifts

The Sunday Times reported that Farage received extensive assistance from Cottrell, an aristocrat with ties to the crypto platform Tether.bet, who served eight months in prison following a 2016 wire fraud conviction. The support allegedly included drivers, social media personnel, and use of a property near Buckingham Palace. Farage dismissed the report as a "hit job," asserting that he strictly followed disclosure rules because the benefits were received prior to his election as an MP.

This controversy compounds an existing inquiry by the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, Daniel Greenberg. The watchdog is currently reviewing Farage’s financial ties to crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne, including a £5 million personal payment and potential breaches of lobbying rules regarding the Bank of England. While Farage maintains the payment was an unconditional gift, opponents argue the lack of transparency warrants a deeper investigation. Despite the mounting pressure, Farage continues to champion pro-crypto policies, including proposals to establish the UK as a global digital asset hub and the adoption of Bitcoin for party donations.
