Director Carl Rinsch Sentenced to Prison Over $11 Million Netflix Fraud

Prosecutors revealed that Rinsch received the funds in 2020 to finalize a project titled “Conquest.” Rather than deploying the capital for production, he funneled the money into personal brokerage accounts, where he engaged in high-risk stock options trading and cryptocurrency speculation. While one notable trade involving Dogecoin reportedly swelled to $27 million, the court maintained that the underlying source of the investment remained illicit production money that was never recovered or utilized for its stated purpose.

Beyond the digital markets, court filings detailed a lavish spending spree. Rinsch used the diverted cash to acquire five Rolls-Royces, a Ferrari, luxury watches, antiques, and high-end furniture. Despite defense arguments citing mental health struggles and character references—including a letter of support from actor Keanu Reeves—the court opted for prison time. In addition to the 30-month sentence, Rinsch faces three years of supervised release and an $11 million forfeiture order, concluding a legal saga that began with his arrest in March 2025 and conviction in December of the same year.
